Mestre Lazaro, the owner and Capoeira Master, started Capoeira at age 14 under Grande Mestre Dinho from the group Capoeira Topazio and has been teaching since establishing his own Capoeira Academy in Orlando in 1994. His core mission is to help students believe in themselves, achieve their full potential, and thrive in a supportive and empowering community. CBP locations are run by passionate, highly trained, experienced, and friendly instructors who are professional Capoeira instructors and have dedicated their lives to sharing the art and culture of Capoeira.

The leadership team includes Mestre Lazaro (also listed as Mestre Lazaro Santos), Professora Paraiba (Jessica Ortiz), Professor Bambu, Instrutora Gine (Jessica Wernett “Gine”), Professor Palhaçada (Wellington Lima, also known as “Palhaçada”), Instrutor Scooby Doo (Craig Ellis Raboteau, also known as “Scooby Doo”), Instrutor Rafael, Instrutor Rato, Professor Pike, and Instrutora Ciclone (Viviana Castaño, also known as “Ciclone”). Professor Bambu received the rank of Professor in 2019 at Capoeira Brazilian Pelourinho’s 26th annual batizado and started training Capoeira in 1998. Instrutor Rato began his journey in Capoeira in 1996. Professor Pike started Capoeira in 1998, has been teaching Capoeira for 20 years, and has taught classes and workshops in Australia, Mexico, Brazil, Las Vegas, Melbourne, California, and Orlando. Professor Palhaçada won the Brazilian national gymnastics championships at 17 and performed with Cirque Du Soleil in over 20 countries, including the show Dralion, and later in “Viva Elvis” and “Michael Jackson One” at Mandalay Bay Hotel.

CBP Martial Arts Academy Orlando is described as a five star Capoeira martial arts academy and an Orlando-based Capoeira academy known as Capoeira Brazilian Pelourinho. CBP has expanded beyond Orlando to reach students in several cities and brings Capoeira to multiple locations across the United States, including Merritt Island, FL; Las Vegas, NV; Harrisburg, PA; and Satellite Beach, FL. CBP offers classes for kids, teens, and adults and welcomes students of all ages and experience levels, and emphasizes a fun, family-friendly, supportive, and inclusive community environment.

Capoeira training at CBP is presented as improving strength, flexibility, coordination, balance, fitness, self-esteem, focus, resilience, accountability, discipline, and self-control. CBP locations provide cultural enrichment through Afro-Brazilian culture. Batizado 2025 is an annual graduation ceremony where students receive their next cord (belt) and new students are officially welcomed into the Capoeira community, and Batizado 2025 is scheduled for Saturday, September 27th, with the event taking place at the Orlando Museum of Art.

The academy partners with the Be Extraordinary Academy, a micro-school that provides a safe and positive alternative to traditional schooling and includes Capoeira classes as part of their after-school programs, and this micro-school partnership focuses on holistic growth, life skills, and enrichment lessons. CBP also partners with the nonprofit organization Capoeira for Tomorrow and has a performance group contracted to perform at Epcot. One parent, Marjorie Martell, described the Summer Camp/Academy experience as “the most AMAZING experience you can give your kids” and shared that her daughters learned and did many things in one month, felt the staff were very caring and loving from day one, and that the staff, especially Jessica (Ms. Ginie), had become an extended family in a short period of time.
