Nelumbo Jiu-Jitsu Academy

Nelumbo Jiu-Jitsu Academy offers Little Jitsu for ages 405 and Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for ages 712, along with a Homeschool Jiu-Jitsu Program, After School Pickup Program, Summer Camp, White Belt Fundamentals, Adult Gi classes, Adult No-Gi BJJ, Judo, Women Self Defense, and Street Jiu-Jitsu. Its classes include Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training, core movements, basic positions, escapes, foundational self-defense concepts, Judo throws and takedowns, and practical self-defense training.

Programs

• Little Jitsu (Ages 4–6) — 4–6 · A fun, structured introduction to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that builds coordination, focus, confidence, and discipline through age-appropriate training.
• Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Ages 7–12) — 7–12 · Designed for school-age children to develop confidence, discipline, respect, and anti-bullying self-defense skills in a safe environment.
• Homeschool Jiu-Jitsu Program — A structured daytime physical education program combining fitness, discipline, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training.

• White Belt Fundamentals — An introductory program for beginners focused on core movements, basic positions, escapes, and foundational self-defense concepts.
• Adult Gi Level 1
• Adult Gi Levels 2–4 — Intermediate and advanced Gi training focused on pressure, combinations, timing, and strategy.
• Adult No-Gi BJJ — Fast-paced training focused on athletic movement, wrestling entries, grip transitions, and live rounds. Ideal for students interested in No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu or preparing for competition.
• Judo — A structured introduction to Judo throws, takedowns, balance, grip fighting, and standing strategy — essential for real self-defense and sport BJJ.
• Women Self Defense — A supportive environment focused on practical self-defense skills, awareness, and confidence-building techniques.

About the provider

The academy is led by Sensei Eddie Torres. It was founded in 2008 and has served Oviedo since 2008. The mission statement says the academy helps kids, teens, and adults grow through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training in a safe, supportive, and structured environment. Sensei Eddie Torres has more than 25 years of experience teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and self-defense, and the academy is associated with BJJ Coach International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Association.

Beginner friendly. No experience needed. No contracts. No pressure. Classes are structured, safe, and supportive. Many families train together.
