Sunshine Child Programs is a not-for-profit child care provider that has been providing school-age child care programs in Broward County since 1992. It offers multiple camp types, including Recreational, Academic, and Grant Funded camps, with some summer locations funded by the Children’s Services Council of Broward County. Recreational camp programs are offered on all Teacher Planning Days, select holidays, Winter Break, Spring Break, and all summer long. Sunshine has several summer locations where breakfast and lunch are provided Monday–Thursday in partnership with the Broward County School Board, and on Fridays and Monday–Friday at specified locations in partnership with Victory for Youth Services. Sunshine also offers a Counselor in Training (CIT) program, Super and Super Duper Field Trips for an additional cost, and Friday pizza sales at Dolphin Bay Elementary. The program states that safety is its first and highest priority, has a low student-to-staff ratio goal, and does not discriminate based on race, religion, gender, national origin, marital status, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, or political orientation.

All camp locations have a supervisor on site and a ratio of 1 counselor per every 20 campers. Staff meet or exceed requirements from the Broward County School Board, State of Florida, Department of Children and Families, Town of Davie, and Sunshine Child Programs. Staff are college-aged or older with childcare experience, cleared through the Broward County School Board and the Department of Children and Families with local and federal background checks, and are trained with certification in First Aid and CPR, Child Abuse and Neglect, Anti Bullying, and Medication Dispense. All staff are required to complete 45 hours of child care training within one year of hire, and all full-time staff are required to take 45 hours of child development coursework and receive certification for a CDA. Staff must be at least 18 years of age, take and pass drug testing, and be fingerprinted with extensive local and national screening performed by the FBI. The program’s mission is to have highly trained, professional staff that is cheerful, responsive and nurturing and to create an environment where they can stay motivated to continually create a positive and successful learning environment for the children in their care.

All programs are licensed and insured and operate under the policies and directives of the Division of Children & Family Services and the Broward County School Board. Sunshine is one of the highest rated after school care programs in Broward County and is recognized for meeting and/or exceeding the quality standards set forth by the Children and Family Services Licensing Department, the Broward County School Board, and the Broward County Children Services Council. Since 1992, Sunshine has been nominated year after year for the Broward County School Board’s Community Partnership of the Year Award, has passed all licensing inspections since 1992, and has a 100% safety rating with all school and city locations year after year. Sunshine is recognized for meeting and/or exceeding the quality standards set forth by The Children and Family Services Licensing Department, the Broward County School Board and the Broward County Children Services Council, and has received numerous accolades and professional recognition from the schools and communities it serves.

Parents are asked to send each camper with one bottle of spray sunscreen on the first day of camp, which will be shared unless a specific labeled sunscreen is provided for only their camper. Campers are asked to come with bathing suits under their clothes, wear their Sunshine shirt on water park days (not required on pool days), and bring a bookbag with a change of clothes, a towel, and sandals or Crocs if preferred. A plastic bag inside the bookbag for wet clothes is suggested, and parents are asked not to send pool clothes in a shopping bag or loose plastic bag because it is hard for campers to manage on and off the bus and in changing rooms. Parents may send lunch from home, but there is no access to refrigerators, microwaves, or silverware.
