Great Explorations Children’s Museum Programs are part of a mid-size children’s museum that has been Tampa Bay’s preeminent children’s museum for over 38 years and the first mid-size children’s museum in the country to achieve AAM accreditation. Great Explorations was the nation’s inaugural children’s museum to establish a licensed preschool, and its Early Explorations Preschool has used a creative curriculum for over 30 years. Early Explorations Preschool is an award-winning, member-only program with qualified teachers, low teacher–child ratios, a high scoring VPK program, and a hands-on learning approach in a loving, nurturing environment.
Great Explorations’ mission is centered on stimulating learning through creativity, play, and exploration. The organization operates as a non-profit children’s museum that relies on generous support, sponsorships, and volunteers, and it strives to create access to museum programming for all children in the community. Great Explorations has a very strict no drop-off policy for birthday parties; if a parent cannot stay to supervise their children for the duration of the party, their children will not be able to stay, and the party could be terminated if the birthday host violates this policy.
The leadership team includes Chief Executive Officer Angeline Howell, Chief Operating Officer Alan Kahle, Chief Administrative Officer Laurel Ginn, Chief Learning Officer Matthew Hilts, and The Explorasaurus – Chief Executive Dinosaur (CED) Morris Morris. Program and education leadership includes Director of Educational Programs Chel Personius, Assistant Director of Preschool Emily Barnes, Interactive Education Coordinator Sara Riemen, Interactive Education Manager Jasmine Hatcher, and Critter Specialist & Guest Experience Assistant Manager Krista Foster. The broader team includes roles in marketing, development, guest experience, exhibits, facilities, accounting and HR, program evaluation, membership, volunteer engagement, environmental services, and creative content, along with a board led by Board Chair Lauren Carlan and Vice Chair Jordan Loebel.
