The organization’s mission is to put Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA was founded based on the core character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility, and its focus areas include Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility. The Y is made up of people of all ages and from every walk of life working side by side to strengthen communities, and its core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility guide everything it does.
In 1889, the first YMCA facility in Tampa was built as a 50,000-square-foot building on the corner of North Florida Avenue and Zack Street, and this YMCA brought Tampa its first gymnasium and indoor swimming pool. Tampa YMCA members have unlimited access to all 10 family centers, three wellness centers and exclusive access to youth and family programs at YMCA Camp Cristina and the Bob Sierra Youth and Family Center, and each family center has a pool, with some locations featuring multiple pools. All locations have new wellness equipment and a helpful, supportive team, and families can plan workouts with a Certified Personal Trainer at the Y.
The Tampa YMCA is proud to continue its partnership with the Tampa Bay Lightning for a second season, and the Tampa YMCA logo appears on all Tampa Bay Lightning jerseys as part of the “Patch With A Purpose” program. Community support from individuals and local partnerships helps the Y address critical community needs through program scholarships and free offerings, and the organization expresses gratitude for partners that support kids, adults, seniors, families, and cancer survivors in the community.
