The Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA was founded based on the core character values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility, and its first facility in Tampa was built in 1889 as a 50,000-square-foot building that included the city’s first gymnasium and indoor swimming pool. Tampa YMCA members have unlimited access to all 10 family centers, three wellness centers, and exclusive access to youth and family programs at YMCA Camp Cristina and the Bob Sierra Youth and Family Center, and each family center has a pool, with some locations featuring multiple pools and new wellness equipment. The mission of the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA is to put Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The Tampa Y is a 501(c)3 nonprofit charitable organization, and the YMCA serves over 17 million members in 120 countries. The Tampa YMCA logo appears on all Tampa Bay Lightning jerseys as part of the “Patch With A Purpose” program, and the organization is in its second season of partnership with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Community support through donations and local partnerships enables the Tampa YMCA to offer program scholarships and free offerings that include opportunities to learn how to swim and be safe around water, prevent and cope with chronic diseases, and build self-confidence and social skills. Families can plan workouts with a Certified Personal Trainer at the Y, and Licensed Preschool services are offered for ages 2 to 5 years old at two family centers.
