The Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA was founded based on the core character values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility, and its mission is to put Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The first YMCA facility in Tampa was built in 1889 as a 50,000-square-foot building that brought the city its first gymnasium and indoor swimming pool and included residential headquarters for young men. Over the decades, this has grown into multiple family facilities, wellness centers, golf facilities, an outdoor adventure camp and numerous program sites across Hillsborough and eastern Pasco counties, and in Tampa Bay the YMCA reaches hundreds of thousands of individuals each year through membership, programs and outreach activities. Tampa YMCA focus areas include Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility, and the Tampa Y is a 501(c)3 nonprofit charitable organization.

Tampa YMCA Summer Camp includes many camp options, including half-day and teen programs, and Tampa YMCA memberships include exclusive savings on Summer Camp, access to 23 Tampa Bay YMCAs, and unlimited exercise classes. The Before & After School Enrichment program is available at 26 Hillsborough County elementary schools and five Y locations, licensed preschool services are offered for ages 2 to 5 years old at two family centers, and group and private swim lessons and water exploration classes are available for all ages from 6 months to adult. Tampa YMCA members have unlimited access to all 10 family centers, three wellness centers and exclusive access to youth and family programs at YMCA Camp Cristina and the Bob Sierra Youth and Family Center, and each family center has a pool, with some locations featuring multiple pools. All locations have new wellness equipment and a helpful, supportive team, and families can plan workouts with a Certified Personal Trainer at the Y. Mary W. Sierra Family YMCA is noted as coming soon.

The Tampa YMCA continues a partnership with the Tampa Bay Lightning as part of the “Patch With A Purpose” program, and community support from individuals and local partnerships helps the Tampa YMCA address community needs through program scholarships and free offerings. The Tampa YMCA and those it serves express gratitude for partners that support kids, adults, seniors, families and cancer survivors in the community. YMCAs have historically sparked the invention of basketball and volleyball, the idea of night school, and concepts for organizations including the Boy Scouts and Campfire Girls, and today the YMCA serves over 17 million members in 120 countries.
