The Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA focuses on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility, and its core values are caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Its mission is to put Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit charitable organization, and Tampa YMCA members have unlimited access to all 10 family centers and three wellness centers, with exclusive access to youth and family programs at YMCA Camp Cristina and the Bob Sierra Youth and Family Center. Each family center has a pool, some locations have multiple pools, all locations have new wellness equipment and a helpful, supportive team, and the Y offers an all-new licensed preschool for ages 2 to 5 at two family centers. The Tampa YMCA also offers a mobile app, YMCA360, with improved features and online group exercise classes. A Certified Personal Trainer at the Y is part of the staff. Community involvement includes a partnership with the Tampa Bay Lightning as part of the “Patch With A Purpose” program and community support through donations that enable individuals to learn how to swim and be safe around the water, prevent and cope with chronic diseases, and build self-confidence and social skills. The Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA was founded based on the core character values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility, and the YMCA is described as the largest and oldest service organization in America, serving over 17 million members in 120 countries. The first YMCA facility in Tampa, built in 1889, was a 50,000-square-foot building that brought the city its first gymnasium and indoor swimming pool and provided residential headquarters for young men, and YMCAs are credited with the invention of basketball and volleyball, the idea of night school, and concepts for organizations including the Boy Scouts and Campfire Girls.
