About
Laura (Riding) Jackson Foundation Student Programs offers Teen Writing Workshops, Teen Writing Fellowship, Teen Fellow Award and Scholarship, Sunday Scribe Tribe, Write in the Middle, and Write Outside. The offerings include free, interactive writing workshops, an ongoing writing group for students ages 12-16, an annual summer camp for middle schoolers, and outdoor programs in the Children’s Garden that include writing or writing readiness for the youngest group.
Programs
- Teen Writing Workshops — 13-19 · throughout the school year · Free, interactive writing workshops at the Writing Center. Partially funded through a grant from Quail Valley Charities.
- Teen Writing Fellowship — A prestigious award that recognizes students who demonstrate dedication and commitment to the development of their literary skills and talents.
- Teen Fellow Award and Scholarship — IRC college-bound graduating seniors who complete the Teen Writing Fellowship are automatically entered into a pool to win one of two $1000 scholarships awarded in May each year.
- Sunday Scribe Tribe — 12-16 · ongoing · An ongoing writing group for students ages 12-16.
- Write in the Middle — middle schoolers · annual summer camp; registration opens in February for camp in June each year · Every participant becomes a published writer.
- Write Outside — 2-5; 6-8; 9-12 · Outdoor programs in the Children’s Garden that include writing or writing readiness for the youngest group.

About the provider
The foundation was founded in 1992 and has offered writing programs for teens since 2000. Its mission is to preserve the author’s home and nurture writers of all ages through literary offerings including writers groups, summer camps, workshops, and poetry festivals. It is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and has a Platinum Guidestar Seal.
