A.R. “Gus” Barksdale Boys & Girls Club

A.R. “Gus” Barksdale Boys & Girls Club offers activities that include Passport to Manhood, Keystone Club, Torch Club, Global Girls (G.E.M.S), and Wellness Wednesday Program for teens. Members can also take part in Basic Cosmetology for teens, the Youth Employment Program for members ages 14–18, Money Matters, S.T.E.A.M, and Power Hour - Geer. The Club includes sports such as Flag Football, Basketball, and All Sports (Flag Football, Soccer, Basketball, and Volleyball), as well as Garden Club - Ultimate Journey - Camp Kiwanis and Performing Arts Clubs in Dance, Poetry, and Hip Hop Dance.

• Schedule: General hours 2:00 pm–8:00 pm, with holiday and summer hours from May 28th to July 18th, 7:30 am–6:00 pm

The A.R. “Gus” Barksdale Boys & Girls Club is part of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, which has 26 Clubs in 9 counties across metropolitan Atlanta and works with hundreds of kids and teens each year. The Club is described as vital to the community and is the only Boys & Girls Club within Rockdale County. The Executive Director is Terry Walker-Moore. Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta states that it works to save and change the lives of children and teens by providing a safe, positive and engaging environment and programs that prepare and inspire them to achieve Great Futures. Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta is accredited by Charity Navigator and GuideStar. The Club notes that it is the only Boys & Girls Club within Rockdale County, that its programs focus on helping kids succeed in school, live healthy, and become leaders, and that it provides an environment where all youth feel safe and secure to dream, discover, and develop.
