Stage Door Theatre Performing Arts Academy is part of Stage Door Theatre, which presents intimately staged, entertaining, and exciting works that may not have been seen in Atlanta in a while or ever before. The academy offers classes and camps connected to this theatre program for families in the Dunwoody area.
The history of Dunwoody Stage Door Players began in 1973, and the organization officially moved into the North DeKalb Cultural Arts Center in 1987/1988. Starting with the organization’s 48th season, Stage Door Theatre launched its Performing Arts Academy. Stage Door Theatre’s mission is stated as a commitment to art, community, and Dunwoody. The leadership team connected to this history includes Marie Drake, Charlene Adair, Mickey Fjetland, Jean Williams, Chuck Welcome, and Robert Egizio. Stage Door Theatre has received support from community leaders, members of the Dunwoody Woman’s Club, Gerry Spruill, and others in the Dunwoody community who were involved in efforts such as creating a Spruill Arts Center and a formally established public library.
