The Georgia Sea Turtle Center Programs & Events take place at Georgia’s only sea turtle education and rehabilitation facility, which features year-round indoor and outdoor programs, interactive exhibits and experiences, and sea turtle rehabilitation in action. The program uses tools such as the Sea Turtle Tracker to keep track of sea turtle nests on Jekyll Island and the Diamondback Terrapin Tracker to keep track of diamondback terrapin crossings. Turtle-safe lighting products, including long wavelength amber or red LEDs, and a symbolic sea turtle adoption program are available through the Georgia Sea Turtle Center’s gift shop, which supports the overall mission of the Center. Supporter memberships include unlimited general admission, discounts on gift shop purchases, special programs, and symbolic adoption renewals.

The Georgia Sea Turtle Center was established in 2007, and its founder is Dr. Terry Norton. The Center’s stated mission is to be an institution devoted to the rehabilitation of injured sea turtles and preservation of the delicate balance of the oceanic ecosystem. Dr. Terry Norton has stated that the Center’s work focuses on rehabilitation, research, and education of sea turtles and wildlife on the Georgia coast.

Families can support the Georgia Sea Turtle Center Programs & Events through tax-deductible contributions made via the Jekyll Island Foundation, the official 501(C)(3) partner of the Jekyll Island Authority. Specialized license plates featuring the Georgia Sea Turtle Center are available in the State of Georgia and contribute to fundraising needs. Flashlights are prohibited on or near beaches from May to October unless using turtle-safe lighting that emits only long wavelength light of not less than 560 nanometers, which can be purchased at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center’s gift shop.
