About

On Stage Playhouse Youth Theatre Camp and Workshops offers youth workshops, a Youth Theatre Camp, and educational workshops that focus on theater arts. Participants take part in performances, live performances, and production opportunities as part of the program’s activities. The program uses theater-based activities such as workshops and performances as its core format.

On Stage organized in 1971 and incorporated in 1974, and shows were held at First Methodist Church and Monroe Elementary until 1975, when the current playhouse became its home. The On Stage Playhouse building was completed in 1910 and has been used over the years as a church, a school facility, a studio for etiquette, elocution, history and literature with student programs and pageants, a practice space for the Monroe Girls Corps, and briefly as a coffee house for local teens. The venue is now used for Youth Theatre Camp to educate kids, and the original church bell, which was removed and later brought back from Gratis, Georgia, now rests in front of the playhouse. On Stage is Walton County's community theatre, and a portion of the proceeds from each regular season show goes to a local charitable, educational, or cultural/historic preservation organization. The mission of On Stage is to create theater experiences for the community in an accessible and inclusive environment through educational workshops, performances, production opportunities, and live performances, and to educate current and future generations in the arts and crafts of theatre through workshops and performances.
