The Music Class Inc. (TMC) is an early childhood music education company that offers music and movement classes for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. All TMC programs are research-based and are designed to teach children in the ways they learn best. The program describes music as a creative and expressive art and states that the path to becoming a musical person should be joyful. TMC states that it embraces families from all cultures and backgrounds and stands against racism in both its classrooms and its music.

The Music Class was founded by Rob Sayer in Atlanta, GA, in 1998 as a family-owned and operated business. It is an international program based in Atlanta with over 1,000 locations and 75,000 students worldwide, and it works closely with center directors around the world. The company has both corporate headquarters and an Atlanta center, and a small office team based in Atlanta. Founder Rob Sayer still teaches his own classes every week in addition to running the company.

The Music Class offers “mommy and me” style classes and a preschool music curriculum, along with a mixed-age program for infants through 4-year-olds. The program’s music is written and recorded in-house and is described as award-winning, with collections that feature recordings by Grammy-nominated musicians. Many Atlanta teachers can be heard on the recordings that families receive in class, and the recordings also feature Rob, Raina, and many TMC teachers, students, and alumni. The music includes styles such as rock, jazz, opera, and traditional songs from around the world, with songs in different meters, scales, rhythms, and styles featuring real instruments and vocalists.

The leadership team includes founder and director Rob Sayer, Executive Vice President of Operations and Technology David Wetzel, and COO and director of TMC in China Raina Sayer. David Wetzel is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Other listed teachers and staff include Berne Poliakoff, who majored in Voice at the College of Charleston and has been a professional musician her entire adult life; Bowen Hoadley, who graduated from Georgia State University with a BA in Music; and Doris Seiden, who has a B.F.A and M.F.A. in Dance from the NYU School of the Arts.

Parents describe The Music Class as fun and engaging for both children and adults, with comments about children recognizing and enjoying the songs at home and in the car. Several parents mention that teachers create warm, inviting, and inclusive classroom environments and that the classes feel accommodating for different needs, including a child who uses an assistive device for walking. Families note that there are new songs each session with no repeats, that the songs are catchy, and that they enjoy having access to the music through an app. Some parents report attending multiple sessions over several years and bringing multiple children to the program. A free trial class can be scheduled by going to a preferred location, emailing, or calling the listed phone number.
