About
Mental Fitness STEAM Academy offers hands-on STEM and STEAM experiences, weekly STEAM projects, and daily homework help and enrichment. The program includes outdoor play, nutritious meals and snacks, themed events, and fun holiday and summer camps with themed weeks and local field trips. Students also take part in regular field trips during the program year.
• Ages: 4–10 years old
• Schedule: Monday to Friday after school, with general hours in the afternoon and early evening, plus seasonal sessions from 1st June to 24th July
Mental Fitness STEAM Academy was founded by educator John Childs, who serves as Executive Director and Founder. It operates as a mission-led nonprofit that reinvests in the programs, people, and families it serves, with a stated goal to make high-quality after-school and camp programming accessible, equitable, and transformative. The program uses a blended curriculum that combines founder-developed educational models, proven STEAM and project-based learning techniques, and social-emotional growth strategies, including intentional lessons in self-awareness, empathy, and relationship-building.
All staff are fully vetted, trained, and certified, and all hold minimum qualifications. A team of trained Innovators is hand-picked for their passion, professionalism, and ability to connect with students, and they lead activities in STEAM-focused learning spaces equipped with hands-on activity stations, creative materials, and tech tools. Classrooms and outdoor play areas are described as clean and well-maintained, and the program uses secure facilities with secure drop-off and pick-up procedures.
Families receive seamless communication through Brightwheel, including real-time updates and parent messaging. The program offers on-site before-school care at the Union City location starting at 6:30 am, as well as a Before School Drop-Off Program and before and after care at Chattahoochee Hills Charter School. Mental Fitness STEAM Academy also offers engaging and interactive tours at the Union City location, along with family events, student showcases, and community meetups.
Mental Fitness STEAM Academy proudly partners with Chattahoochee Hills Charter School to extend programming into school campuses. It supports students and families from Campbell Elementary School, Liberty Pointe Elementary School, EC West Elementary School, C.H. Gullatt Elementary School, Bear Creek Middle School, Renaissance Middle School, and Global Impact Academy High School (morning drop-off only). The program serves families across Atlanta and is connected to local schools and community events.
