Mental Fitness STEAM Academy offers hands-on STEM and STEAM experiences, daily homework help and enrichment, and outdoor play as part of its after-school programming. The program also includes weekly STEAM projects, field trips, themed events, and fun, enriching holiday and summer camps with themed weeks and local field trips.

• Schedule: Monday to Friday, with before-school drop-off available from 6:30 am and after-school care from 2:00 pm to 6:30 pm
Mental Fitness STEAM Academy is a mission-led nonprofit organization founded by educator John Childs, who serves as Executive Director and Founder. It was founded with the goal to make high-quality after-school and camp programming accessible, equitable, and transformative. Programs are offered as a high-quality after-school program and holiday camps for students in Pre-K to 5th grade at one site and K–8th grade at another site, with Georgia’s expanded Pre-K eligibility allowing the program to welcome younger learners. The program uses a blended curriculum that combines founder-developed educational models, proven STEAM and project-based learning techniques, and social-emotional growth strategies, with activities built around STEM and project-based activities, social-emotional education, movement, art, and play.
Students learn in STEAM-focused learning spaces equipped with hands-on activity stations, creative materials, and tech tools, along with clean, well-maintained classrooms and outdoor play areas. Social-emotional learning is embedded through intentional lessons in self-awareness, empathy, and relationship-building. The program provides nutritious meals and snacks each day. Facilities are described as secure, with secure drop-off and pick-up procedures, and use the Brightwheel communication system for real-time updates and parent messaging.
The staff includes fully vetted, trained, and certified team members who all hold minimum qualifications, along with a team of trained and highly trained Innovators. The program uses the MF21 Innovation Engine, a proprietary instructional operating system that integrates STEM education, Mental Fitness, and hands-on learning through five phases: Ignite, Explore, Build, Test, and Launch. This approach focuses on developing critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, innovation, emotional resilience, collaboration, teamwork, communication confidence, leadership skills, adaptability, and perseverance.
Mental Fitness STEAM Academy offers before-school care at one location and both before and after care at Chattahoochee Hills Charter School. It proudly partners with Chattahoochee Hills Charter School and is honored to partner with Campbell Elementary School, Liberty Point Elementary School, Evoline C. West Elementary School, C.H. Gullatt Elementary School, The Main Street Academy, Oakley Elementary School (Before Care Only), Bear Creek Middle School, Renaissance Middle School, and Global Impact Academy High School (Morning drop-off only). The organization regularly hosts family events, community meetups, and student showcases, and describes its work as deeply rooted in collaboration and building stronger communities, one inspired learner at a time.
