Alton Little Theater Kids Program
Alton Little Theater, 2450 N. Henry Street (PO Box 156), Alton, IL 62002
About
Alton Little Theater Kids Program features a high-energy Disney musical revue where kids sing, dance, and act to bring Disney songs to life on stage. Participants take part in acting, singing, stage movement, vocal performance, character development, choreography, music, and theater workshop time in acting, singing, and stagecraft. The program also includes technical theater and backstage theater activities such as lighting, sound, set design, costume design, staging, and stage presence, and includes a show t-shirt.
• Ages: 8–17 years old
• Schedule: Rehearsals on Tuesdays–Thursdays from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Sundays from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, with show dates June 19–22
• Price: Enrollment Fee: $250 per child
Rehearsals focus on staging, choreography, music, and theater education. Audition preparation requires 16–32 measures of a Disney song (about one verse and the chorus), with backing or karaoke tracks preferred, and a connected speaker is provided instead of an accompanist. The program is directed by Bethany Rosenthal, and parents are always welcome to attend auditions and rehearsals. The program is open to performers ages 8–17, with exceptions possible for younger kids turning 8 soon, and spots are limited. Instructors have years of experience in theater and performance, and all directors, instructors, and key volunteers working with children undergo background checks. The program uses safe drop-off and pick-up procedures that require check-in and sign-out with an approved adult, and the team is trained in basic first aid and emergency response procedures. It takes place within Alton Little Theater, which is a Board-driven, Non-Equity theater with paid production staff.
Alton Little Theater was originally founded in 1933 and is getting ready to begin its 91st consecutive season, and ALT is the longest-running community theater in the state of Illinois. ALT states that its purpose is “to develop interest in the theater, to create and sponsor the production of quality drama, the highest ideals of dramatic activity and to provide a community center for the performing arts,” attributed to Dorothy Colonius. ALT is described as a vital resource for theater arts and entertainment and notes community partnerships and collaborations with other arts organizations in the greater Riverbend area. The leadership team includes Executive Director Eric Sykes, Box Office Supervisor (Volunteer) Michael Cox, President of the Board of Directors Jake Tenberge, Vice President Megan Kolosieke, and other named board and volunteer roles, with house management provided by volunteers from the board.
