The program’s mission is “Developing and nurturing creative skills and preparing students for lifelong success through creative confidence,” and it describes itself as “a premier academy with STEAM focused education for kids.” Its structured proprietary curriculum is math-based, focuses on practical use, and is designed by an artist who is also an engineer, with classes held in small groups and matched to each child’s ability, skills, and age, and students able to join anytime during the year. The owner is described as a strong proponent of STEAM education and design thinking, and students learn to connect visual arts with other STEM disciplines, with critical thinking, problem solving, and teamwork stressed in the teaching approach.
Studio Nafisa serves the Aurora and Naperville communities and has worked with various charitable organizations by conducting workshops for social organizations, Scouts, and health care facilities. It offers group events for Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Boy Scouts to meet art badge, patch, belt loop, and pin requirements, and provides art enrichment and STEM/STEAM events at schools.
Parent and participant feedback includes comments that children have created “beautiful works of art” at Studio Nafisa, that drawing skills improved in just a few sessions, and that fall, winter, and summer art camps, as well as birthday parties and Girl Scout outings, were enjoyed. Several parents describe successful Brownie and Girl Scout badge events, including painting and jewelry badges, and note that projects such as canvas painting and quilling were fun and easy to follow. Multiple parents and reviewers on Yelp and Facebook state that their children loved the classes, camps, and workshops, and mention specific experiences such as a Red Panda painting event, a jewelry-making session, and exposure to concepts like design thinking through art.
