Studio Nafisa’s mission is to develop and nurture creative skills and prepare students for lifelong success through creative confidence, and it describes itself as a premier academy with STEAM-focused education for kids. The studio offers a structured proprietary curriculum designed by an artist who is also an engineer, including a math-based proprietary drawing curriculum that focuses on practical use and connects visual arts with STEM disciplines. The program states that students learn to connect visual arts with other STEM disciplines, use math from school in their drawings, and develop skills to design and prototype products, sketch and visually communicate ideas, innovate solutions, illustrate, create animated movies, and design games, with critical thinking, problem solving, and teamwork emphasized in the teaching approach.

The curriculum is designed by founder Nafisa Husain, who has formal education in both engineering and art, prior corporate experience in electrical and software engineering, and certifications in Still Life, Memory, Nature, and Geometric drawings, and she is a Distinguished Toastmaster. Nafisa Husain is the Founder and Creator in Chief and is described as the owner and primary driving force behind Studio Nafisa, and staff member Ms. Erin Bartolotta holds an undergraduate degree in Studio Art and a master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. Studio Nafisa offers Girl Scout and Boy Scout art badges at the studio and group events that address art badge, patch, belt loop, and pin requirements for Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Boy Scouts.

The program provides after school and art enrichment programs at schools, LEGO Early Engineering at schools, and STEM and STEAM events at schools, and it offers workshops for various groups including social organizations, Scouts, and health care facilities. Studio Nafisa states that it has instilled creative confidence in more than 1,200 kids and serves the Aurora and Naperville communities, and it has worked with various charitable organizations to give back to the community. Testimonials from parents and participants describe experiences with summer camps that introduced design thinking through art, fall and winter art camps, birthday parties with canvas painting or quilling, Girl Scout and Brownie badge events such as painting and jewelry workshops, and a studio environment described as peaceful, quiet, and focused on creativity.
