Panther Sports Club (PSC) began in 1971 and has offered programs over the last 50 years. PSC states that it is dedicated to giving girls the opportunity to prosper in the sporting world. The club describes itself as the largest all-girl organization in the Midwest offering year-round sports in basketball, softball, and volleyball, with approximately 1000 girls involved throughout the ages of 5 through 18. Each sport has both in-house and more competitive traveling programs, and all levels of Panthers fastpitch are travel, with differences between Travel C (House B), Travel C (House A), and Competitive Travel (ASA B level). Panthers fall ball focuses on individual growth, strength training, conditioning, and refining fundamentals, and does not have a formal fall season but offers open gym time for athletes. Spring tryouts are described as the most competitive season with local and out-of-town traveling for certain teams, and once a girl enters the program she is described as becoming part of a very large family at Panthers.
Panthers participates in the Southwest Suburban softball (SWS) league, which includes several surrounding communities and provides the opportunity for teams to play against teams from communities such as Naperville, Romeoville, and Joliet. Trophies are awarded to the top three finishers in each age group in the SWS league and SWS Travel tournaments, and MVO (most valuable opponent) medals are awarded after each game to a player on the opposing team. Panthers has partnered with Go Pro Sports Dome in Minooka, IL for Panther fastpitch winter training.
Age qualification for fastpitch is determined based on age as of January 1 of the current calendar year, with defined 8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, and 16/18U divisions. A girl may play up only one age division beyond her own age if she is the even age of the lower age group, and no player can play lower than her identified age division. All registered players are eligible to participate in additional clinics for free or for a small fee on a first-come, first-served basis, and the winter training program is included in the softball program registration fee. For fastpitch, parents are asked to provide black softball pants and sliding shorts.
Uniforms are an additional cost, and the approximate cost of a complete uniform is $65, which includes two uniform jerseys (home and away) with the player's name and number, two pairs of socks (one red and one black), and a belt. All uniform pieces can be purchased individually, and a girl can reuse her uniform from the prior year as long as the same style is used in the current year and her number remains the same. For travel basketball, the Travel Basketball Commissioner is Christopher Smith.
