About

Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble Educational Programs & Camps are part of Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble, which creates contemporary multidisciplinary performances rooted in the tradition of Tanztheatre and in the collaborative process of devising. The programs are connected to CDE’s arts education work in Chicago schools, where students explore their own creativity. Teaching artists in these programs support the holistic development of science, math, reading, and social skills through art and performance.

Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble has been “Building community through the arts ‘One Voice, One Story, One Person At a Time’” since 2001. Its arts education programs create a space in Chicago schools for students to explore their own creativity. The organization strives to create an equitable and empowering space for artists, administrators, teachers, and audiences, and aims to build a platform for the voices of the diverse communities it serves. Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble provides a land acknowledgement recognizing that its permanent home sits on the traditional homelands of the Three Fires Confederacy: Odawa, Ojibwe, and Potawatomi nations, as well as the Fox, Ho-Chunk, Inoka, Miami, Sac, and their descendants. Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble is a community partner of Ebenezer Lutheran Church, a Lutheran congregation that welcomes people of all ages, races, ethnicities, sexual orientations and gender identities and expressions, physical and mental capacities, marital or partnership statuses, and backgrounds. One testimonial from PerformInk notes that “efforts to tell these often ignored stories and to share them with the community is noticeable and admirable - makes buying a ticket feel as much about supporting social justice as buying entertainment.”
