The Subsidized Rehearsal Space Program provides rehearsal space per month at a subsidized rate and offers grant writing support and consulting. This program aims to provide high-quality rehearsal space and a supportive infrastructure to independent BIPOC artists on Chicago’s south/southwest side at a more affordable rate and aligns with Clinard Dance’s mission honoring cross-disciplinary arts practice that cultivates dance, music, and storytelling projects grounded in collaboration, justice, and cultural exchange. Through this program, Clinard Dance fosters creativity as a pathway to connection, dialogue, and healing.
Clinard Dance’s Pilsen studio is in the midst of a transformation guided by community-based research, and the Subsidized Rehearsal Space Program is generously supported by unspecified supporters. King Moosa and artist Kahari Blackburn, in partnership with the Coalition to Decarcerate, held an art exhibition in the upstairs studio, and Xinachtli Xochikalli are residents through the Subsidized Rehearsal Space Program, utilizing the studio space for their Nahua practices. Open studio events throughout the year host shows and exhibitions with seating for up to 40 attendees.
Wendy Clinard is in residence at 1729 S. Halsted Chicago IL 60608 and is a recipient of the 2025 3Arts Award. The leadership team includes Wendy Clinard and the Director of Body Confidence for Queens, Mocha/Kenshumma Tolliver.
