About
Extensions Dance Center Youth Training Program offers classes in ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, tap, ballroom, and jumps/turns. The program is part of the home of Chicago's premier youth dance company and includes a studio showcase performance at the end of the year for the youth training program. Company experiences are available by audition for dancers who wish to take their training to an elite level.
• Ages: 2–18 years old
• Schedule: Extensions Dance Center’s 2025-26 schedule of classes is in session and will run through Friday, June 12, 2026.
The program includes Twinkle Stars Academy for ages 2.5–5. Extensions Dance Company’s Petite Company starts at 4 class hours per week, with older members committing to 9 or more class hours per week, and company tuition includes unlimited classes at Extensions at a 30% or more discount. Chicago City Classical Ballet members commit to a minimum of 10.5 class training hours per week as well as private lessons in both classical and contemporary work. Kidz Movin’ Hip Hop Crew commits to a minimum of one hip hop class per week and a 1 or more hour rehearsal per week, and Extensions Tap Company commits to a minimum of one tap class per week and a 1 or more hour rehearsal per week. There is no minimum required class schedule for the youth training program.
The faculty are hand selected for their extensive teaching and dancing resumes, along with their love for teaching and compassion for young people. Lizzie MacKenzie is one of the top choreographers in the Midwest and is described as an excellent teacher. The program states that Extensions is for everyone, all ages and all levels of experience, and that it takes great pride in training and mentoring its dancers. According to the mission statement, the program focuses on discipline, consistency, hard work, follow through, and commitment, and on cultivating young artists and well-rounded human beings who contribute to society in a positive way.
