About
Morgan Park Sports Center Gymnastics offers gymnastics and tumbling classes, as well as open gym time. Classes begin with an explanation of gym rules on the first day of each gymnastics session, and all gymnastics classes except the Parent-tot class start with cardio and stretching. Pre-school gymnastics classes use obstacle courses that cover skills listed on that level’s evaluation sheet, while recreational gymnastics classes rotate to two events per class, including girls’ events such as bars, floor, vault, and beam, and boys’ events such as parallel bars, rings, vault, pommel horse, and floor; tumbling classes use areas on the floor.
• Schedule: Open Skate at Morgan Park Sports Center does not require pre-registration.
Parents and caregivers may watch classes from an observation room on the second floor of the facility. Each child is permitted one make up per session, which must be scheduled in advance through the gymnastics coordinator and is subject to availability. Recommended gymnastics attire includes a one piece leotard, fitted shorts or leggings, a fitted full-length shirt, and bare feet except on the trampoline, with hair secured away from the face; bare midriffs, denim, snaps or zippers, over-sized T-shirts, footed tights, ballet shoes, and jewelry including hair jewelry and butterfly clips are not permitted, and athletes who are unprepared for class may not participate. Parents are asked to have their child use the restroom before class, and the restroom is located just outside the gym door. A lost and found is located in the gym, with cell phones or keys kept in the office for safekeeping. Morgan Park Sports Center is owned by the City of Chicago and is associated with the Chicago Park District, under the leadership of City of Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, the Chicago Park District Board of Commissioners, and General Superintendent and CEO Carlos Ramirez-Rosa.
