About

The Wooden Spoon Cooking Classes offers hands-on cooking classes that include working with chicken, pork, shrimp, beef, steak, vegetables, and chocolate. Students practice making pasta sauce, marinades, meringue, truffles, pancakes, dipping sauces, cheese spreads, stuffed potatoes, and doughs for samosas, naan pizza, and bread sticks, along with frying skills, piping skills, and cooking steak to a specific temperature. Classes also cover where to find and how to work with Indian spices, as well as working with Korean spices and ingredients.

• Schedule: The Wooden Spoon is open five days a week from Wednesday–Sunday with classes throughout the month; in general it takes 2 to 2.5 hours for the food to be served.

The Wooden Spoon Cooking Classes is family owned and operated by food fanatics and co-owners Trina and Sean Sheridan. The Wooden Spoon has been a leading source for kitchen products and cooking classes in Chicago since 2002, after Trina and Sean developed the idea in fall 2001 and opened the shop on December 7, 2002. The educational and entertaining classes at The Wooden Spoon give students the skills for a lifetime of culinary enjoyment. The Wooden Spoon became part of the Andersonville independent business community and is also a top-tier venue for corporate and private events. Friday night is “Date Night” at The Wooden Spoon, and classes are BYOB, with the program noting that the more participants drink, the less they learn. The cancellation policy offers a full refund or store credit if cancelled at least seven days in advance, and store credit less a $50 cancellation fee per ticket if cancelled fewer than seven days before the class.
