About

YMCA Summer Camp Programs include day camp, overnight camp, family camp, and specialty camp options. YMCA day camps take place in rural, urban, and suburban settings and include new outdoor experiences, skill-building, and time with friends, with campers returning home each afternoon. YMCA overnight camps can run from a single weekend to an entire season and are located in scenic settings across the country, and YMCA family camps offer families access to the same types of camp experiences. YMCA specialty camps focus on specific interests such as teen adventure, music, sports, and cooking, and also include programs for medical and mental health challenges or other special needs.

• Ages: 5–17 years old

The YMCA was founded in London in 1844. The YMCA’s mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. The YMCA’s core values are caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. The YMCA serves more than 64 million people in 120 countries and describes itself as the leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community by empowering young people, improving health and well-being for all ages, and inspiring action in and across communities. In 2020, Ys across the U.S. offered more than 1,400 day camp programs and served 364,910 kids and teens at resident and day camps, and the organization reports having more than 200 overnight camps for kids and teens, along with specialty camps that focus on specific programs to meet individual camper needs. The YMCA states that camp is a place where all are accepted and where kids can be their authentic selves, and it notes that skills learned at camp foster resilience for life. Across the U.S., YMCA day and overnight camps have been described by the organization as empowering kids by building lifelong skills, confidence, and friendships. The YMCA collaborates with community leaders through community programs, local outreach, and global engagement, and during the COVID-19 pandemic it partnered with the Walmart Foundation to help provide food to children who needed it most. Each YMCA location is independently operated, and YMCA of the USA does not have authority over local Ys’ business operations, membership and employment relationships, or contractual obligations.
