Tri-Star Gymnastics offers age-appropriate classes for pre-schoolers and kindergarteners, as well as skill-based classes for students in grade school and up. It offers many recreational gym classes that challenge, engage and delight toddlers through teens of various abilities, including classes for toddlers to participate in with their “special adult.” Mini-Star classes are offered for 3, 4, 5, and 6 year olds, Beginner / Advanced Beginner classes are offered for 6 to 9 year olds, and there are classes in both gymnastics and tumbling for older boys and girls of various skill levels. All-Star and Fast Track classes are available for children who really like gymnastics but are not ready to make a team commitment, and students can also join the GIJO Team (Junior Olympics) or the USAG Team (the national age group program for both boys and girls).
Family Fun is designed for families with young children to enjoy indoor physical activities with their parents, or for friends and siblings of Tri-Star students to come in to see what is happening at the gym. All Family Fun events are open to everyone, with children 6 and under requiring caregiver supervision. During Family Fun, children are free to try out the equipment or show off what they are learning in class. Birthday parties are offered on a very limited basis on select Saturdays and Sundays.
Tri-Star Gymnastics has been offering instruction in gymnastics, tumbling, and trampoline since 1987. It was founded by Coaches Kris Wright, Willie Washington and Lynn Allen and later joined by Margie Gilchrist. Tri-Star Gymnastics is a nonprofit and tax-exempt organization that has been offering instruction to children and families from Oak Park, River Forest, Forest Park and the Chicagoland area since 1987.
Tri-Star’s philosophy is that gymnastics can be fun for everyone. The program states that it is not just the learning of skills that is important, but also the process of learning, including patience, courage, self-discipline, and recognizing and building on personal strengths. According to its mission, children should come out of the gym with a sense of satisfaction that they are challenged to do fun new things, that they are improving skills, and that they are individuals who are accepted and cared about.
