• Ages: 4–14 years old
• Price: Uniform fee is $70; separate from program fees.
Intro to Flag Football is an instructional, non-contact class that uses mini-sized footballs and flag belts. Sports Galore features a different sport each week, including soccer, baseball, and basketball. Taekwondo follows the five ancient tenets of courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit, and all participants must wear a uniform consisting of a top, bottom, and belt, with a $70 uniform fee that is separate from program fees. The T-Ball Clinic is an introductory T-ball program that stresses teamwork over competition. Tennis classes use the principles and practices of the QuickStart Tennis format. Track & Field is intended as a positive first step into running and fitness and includes a track and field meet on the last day.
RoboThink: Expedition Mars uses RoboThink’s Robotics Kit in a STEAM program where kids build space robots and learn about space, space travel, stars, and gravity. RoboThink: Engineer Tanks has students build a variety of armored machines and take part in challenges and battles that test their engineering skills. Art Club is an open studio drop-in class where a new medium is introduced each class and students can choose their own project from painting, drawing, mixed media, and more. Improv Class uses improv games and activities to build creativity, confidence, and self-expression, and each week focuses on a new emotion and visual cue.
For Intro to Flag Football, Sports Galore, and Track & Field, participants are asked to bring a water bottle. For the T-Ball Clinic, participants only need to bring a glove. For Tennis, participants must have their own rackets, wear athletic shoes, and bring a water bottle. All materials are provided for Art Club.
The mission of Hawthorn Woods Parks & Recreation Youth Programs is that classes are suitable both for introductory participants and for those who want to continue building their skills and developing their existing talents. The Village of Hawthorn Woods, which offers these youth programs, was formed on March 10, 1958, when its creation was approved by a unanimous vote of 71 residents. The Village of Hawthorn Woods is designated as an International Dark Sky Community by the International Dark-Sky Association, an organization dedicated to preserving the night sky from the negative effects of artificial light.
