About
Showball Head Coach Academic Camps focuses on baseball through showcase camps that include workouts, instructional work, coaching, games, and positional showcase stations. The program runs baseball showcase camps that bring players together with coaches in an organized camp setting.
• Schedule: Camp Dates June 16-17, 2025; Camp Days Tuesday and Wednesday
Showball Head Coach Academic Camps was founded in 2007 by former professional players John Novak and Derek Ottevaere of the Texas Rangers Organization. In 2024, leadership transitioned to Bruce Larkins, who has 13 years of collegiate coaching experience and over 5 years in the academic consulting field. The program states a core mission of making a player’s journey from high school to college baseball an enjoyable and successful one. Showball runs what it describes as the nation’s only Head Coach Academic Showcase Camps and the nation’s largest showcase camp, with a Super Mega Showcase Camp that includes 40 attending coaches. The organization reports that all 8 Ivy League head coaches attend along with additional coaches from around the country, and that some events include multiple coaches from 40 programs. Showball states that with up to 150 total coaches expected and guaranteed at its events, it operates the largest showcase camp in the country. Over 100,000 student-athletes and 1,200 coaches have attended a Showball Camp, and the camps are open to any and all participants, limited only by position and participant capacity. The company notes that it is the only one to offer a predominantly all Head Coach Academic Showcase Camp.
Parent and coach testimonials describe the camps as well run, professional, informative, and timely, with specific mention of coach interaction, real-time feedback from decision-makers, and a high volume of baseball activity with little downtime. Multiple testimonials mention positive experiences for their sons, satisfaction with how the camps were organized, and intentions to recommend or return to future events. A long-time college coach who worked a Showball camp described the operation as “first class” and expressed interest in working additional showcases in multiple locations.
