About
Naperville Little League Baseball offers baseball through multiple divisions, including Sandlot Baseball and Challenger Baseball. Sandlot Baseball uses coach pitch “sponge” ball for its games, and Challenger Baseball is an adaptive baseball program for kids with physical or intellectual challenges. The program also includes divisions such as Rookies A and AA, Supreme A and AA, Majors A and AA, and Junior Division, which play regular season games.
• Ages: 4–18 years old
• Schedule: Challenger Baseball games are held on Saturdays with a 30-minute warm-up and practice followed by 1–1.5 hours of game play; other divisions generally play one game during the week and one game on Saturday, with some divisions having games at 8:00 pm on lighted fields during the week, and seasons typically running from early or late April through June, with Sandlot Baseball running from late May through the first week in July.
Since 1952, Naperville Little League has operated with the stated goal of providing an outlet of healthful baseball activity and training under good leadership in an atmosphere of wholesome community participation. Its programs are described as being dedicated to helping kindergartners to 8th graders become good and decent citizens, inspiring children with an awareness and fondness of community, and providing every child the chance to be a team member and develop both skills on and off the field of play.
Naperville Little League is open to boys and girls in 1st through 8th grade for each particular school year and is divided into three leagues: the Continental League, the National League, and the Republic League. The elementary school boundary in which a player resides or attends school determines which league the child will play in, and teams strive to be made according to the schools players attend.
Sandlot Baseball is a program for pre-k and kindergarten boys and girls and introduces the youngest players to baseball using coach pitch “sponge” ball, with scores and standings not kept. Scores and standings are also not kept in Rookies A Division and Rookies AA Division. Scores and standings are kept and certain teams advance to playoffs to compete for City Champion in Supreme A Division, Majors A Division, and Junior Division, while scores and standings are kept and teams advance to compete for City Champion in Supreme AA Division and Majors AA Division. Supreme AA and Majors AA divisions require tryouts, and off season training occurs in these divisions.
Any individual with physical or intellectual challenges who is in grades 1st through 12th, and students under 23 enrolled in a school district program, may participate in Challenger Baseball. In Challenger Baseball, each player is paired with a Buddy, who is a registered Naperville Little League Baseball player that assists on the field.
