About
Naperville Premier Soccer League (NPSL) includes soccer training sessions and league games. Teams take part in organized soccer games and can also participate in trainer-led or coach-led practices that focus on soccer skills and game play.
• Ages: 6–13 years old
• Schedule: Games are typically played on Saturdays, with a possibility of an occasional weekday make-up game, and no games over Memorial Day or Labor Day weekends; each team plays 7 games per season and trainer-option teams have 9 training sessions.
• Price: Non-resident players will be charged a $20 fee upon completion of the team waiver.
NPSL is designed for teams seeking an enhanced focus on player development without the cost and time constraints of a club or travel league. NPSL has partnered with Coerver Coaching to provide training services. Coerver Coaching was founded in 1984, and Soccer Success Inc., founded in 2005 by David Parker, has been the Coerver Coaching Licensee for Illinois since 2006.
University division teams have one 60-minute training session per week with a certified trainer. Trainers are hired through a stringent recruitment process, and all candidates are assessed on the field in a practical coaching setting and through a formal interview. NPSL University 1st Grade teams must use a Coerver trainer, and NPSL teams using Coerver trainers receive priority for certain training areas.
No scores or standings are recorded for NPSL University 1st Grade Recreational League games. Scores and standings are recorded for NPSL 2nd–8th Grades Competitive League, where teams practice 1–2 times per week for 60 minutes. Kindergarten players are not eligible for the 1st Grade University Division, and 1st Grade players are not eligible for the NPSL 2nd Grade Division.
Grade 1 plays 5v5 with a maximum of 10 players on the roster. Grades 2–3 play 7v7 with a maximum of 14 players on the roster. Grades 4–8 play 9v9 with a maximum of 18 players on the roster. Awards are given to 1st and 2nd place teams at the end of the season.
Players in the University division may play against NYS teams, follow NYS game rules, and wear the NYS jersey. Players cannot be registered for NYS and NPSL at the same time due to scheduling conflicts. NPSL is for experienced players seeking the next steps in personal development, and there are no restrictions on club team players or the number of club team players on an NPSL team.
Teams may not reschedule their games to another day, time, or location, even if they offer to pay for space or provide their own referee. Teams unable to make a scheduled game may work within their age group to switch timeslots. For practices, players are required to wear athletic clothing and gym shoes or rubber cleats, and the Naperville Park District does not provide any equipment to NPSL teams, so each team determines and sources its own equipment.
