About

Peter Pan Day Schools includes activities such as large motor movement, gross motor activities, daily swim lessons, fun art projects with a project every day, and time in a writing center and sensory tub. Children take part in Learning Gardens, including early spring plantings, late fall harvests, and chances to plant in the garden. At Little Shepherd Day School, the Peter Pan curriculum is combined with Christian lessons and Children’s Chapel with Pastor Dennis, with daily activities that focus on loving oneself, family, friends, the world, and developing appreciation and respect for all that God has created.

• Schedule: Play-based daycare and preschool programs with play-based learning as the centerpiece of every minute of the day

Peter Pan Day Schools includes four locations: Peter Pan 75th Street, Peter Pan North Preschool, Little Shepherd Day School, and Peter Pan of Westmont. The program’s mission states that it provides children with the opportunity to learn by doing as a key to developing curiosity about the world and becoming enthusiastic life-long learners, and that it provides kids with a joyful, safe, and nurturing environment that expands their natural curiosity. The “Every Day is a Nature Day” nature curriculum has been developed over decades and goes beyond preparing children for elementary school by developing problem solving, collaboration, resilience, creativity, and a love of learning. Little Shepherd was originally established as a ministry of the Naperville Church of the Brethren in the 1970s, and in 2001 the church board outsourced management to Helen Hochstetter, at which time Little Shepherd joined the Peter Pan family. Little Shepherd offers the Peter Pan curriculum with the addition of Christian lessons and Children’s Chapel with Pastor Dennis.

Families describe Peter Pan North Preschool as offering a balance between play-based learning and a foundation of skills that translate to full-day kindergarten, with several parents noting that their children were prepared for kindergarten and enjoyed their time there. Parents at Little Shepherd report a sense of care and nurturing, individual attention from staff, and describe it as more than “just a daycare,” with an outstanding curriculum and strong preparation for kindergarten. Peter Pan 75th Street parents highlight daily swim lessons, gardening, fun art projects, and an “absolutely amazing” backyard with a large play yard and beautiful gardens. Westmont parents describe the staff as extremely professional and the education as superb, and several parents across locations mention clean classrooms, handmade decorations, a variety of toys and activities, responsive communication, and staff who they feel treat their children like family.
