Summer Camp includes daily themed lessons, hands-on activities, and important lessons on animals and pets. Campers take part in interactions with shelter animals, Positive Reinforcement Training, and training some of the shelter dogs and cats. Activities also include cleaning shelter animals’ spaces, providing enrichment and socializing shelter animals, arts and crafts, fun crafts, story time, outdoor games, fun outdoors, and meeting special guests, both human and animal.

Summer Camp is run by the Naperville Area Humane Society (NAHS), whose mission is to promote the humane treatment of companion animals and create lasting human-animal bonds. Art with Animals Mini Camp is for ages 4–5, Friends for Life Camp is for ages 6–8 and focuses on being “friends for life” with pets and other animals, and Animal Neighbors Camp is for ages 9–11 and focuses on being the best animal neighbor to pets and wild neighbors. Active Animals Camp is for ages 11–13 and focuses on keeping furry friends active and includes sports and activities shelter dogs and cats participate in to stay healthy. PAWsome Manners Camp is for ages 12–14 as an animal training camp for kids focused on Positive Reinforcement Training and is taught by a Professional Animal Trainer. Veterinary and Animal Careers Camp is for ages 12–15 and introduces many animal careers, including animal sheltering, animal husbandry, animal welfare, medical care, safety, adoptions versus breeding, and community impact on animals, and all Careers Camp campers participate in cleaning and caring for shelter animals, enrichment, and socializing alongside staff and volunteers.
The Naperville Area Humane Society is a 501(c)3 nonprofit limited admission animal shelter for dog and cat adoption, foster care, and owner surrenders and serves the western suburbs of Chicago, Illinois and beyond. Policies, dates, and operations for Summer Camp are subject to change, there is a $25 cancellation fee for any cancellations 30 or more days before a summer camp date, no refunds are given within 30 days of the summer camp start date, and camps fill up quickly with waitlists available. PAWsome Manners Camp and other programs at NAHS are part of an organization that began in 1979, when a small group gathered to create a safe and secure place for lost and unwanted animals waiting for a “forever” home.
