The mission of Children’s Discovery Museum STEM Programs is to nurture the whole-child by encouraging critical thinking, engaging creative expression and stimulating curiosity through interactive play. The exhibits, programs and partnerships serve children and families in Central Illinois and beyond. As a public resource and community hub, the museum states that it strives to create a sense of belonging where youth, families, educators, volunteers, members and donors come together to play, learn and grow, and that it bridges diverse community groups and stakeholders, near and far. Innovation Station is a platform to engage children and families in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) through innovative, hands-on learning experiences. Early Childhood Programs use monthly themes that build a child's sense of wonder and playfulness as they engage in play, physical movement, music and art activities. Exhibits are conceived with children and their open ended learning experience at the core. The museum includes sensory-friendly elements, communication boards, bilingual signage and inclusive play features to make learning more accessible. Unloading is prohibited around the Uptown Circle, and Uptown Station parking deck is described as a free, safe and weather-proof drop-off location, with convenient elevators and a climate-controlled lobby.
