About
West Cook YMCA Youth Programs include activities such as Adventure Camp, School's Out Specials, Kids Zone, swim lessons, a competitive swim team, aquatic programs, fitness and sports activities, after-school care, and summer camp. The programs also offer Zumba, First Aid/CPR/AED trainings, lifeguard training, swim instructor training, and access to YMCA360 On-Demand and Livestream programming. Families can also take part in the Spirit, Mind, Body Series and the Community Integrated Health Nutrition Series, and some participants live in the residence connected to the programs.
• Schedule: Community Integrated Health Nutrition Series meets on the second Wednesday of each month from 5pm–6pm
The Spirit, Mind, Body Series offers a new focus each session with focused and intentional instruction and discussion. The Community Integrated Health Nutrition Series is led by experts from Rush Oak Park. Access to YMCA360 is included in membership, and the YMCA360 Mobile App is used to reserve spots in the pool and group exercise classes. School's Out Specials provide care for children when school is closed following the District 90 schedule, and Kids Zone has expanded hours with curated, age-based experiences.
Certification is preferred for lifeguards and swim instructors, and training is available for these roles. The West Cook YMCA has been serving the community since 1902 and renewed its commitment in 2014 through an intentional and comprehensive restructuring of capacity and program offerings. The West Cook YMCA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit social services organization dedicated to Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. The organization focuses on youth achievement and community health and wellness, and newcomers have been provided temporary housing.
Partners at Rush Oak Park lead the Community Integrated Health Nutrition Series seminars. West Cook YMCA positions its programs and services as the preferred wellness provider to its members and service area by providing a quality experience through excellence in service. One Diabetes Prevention Program participant stated that the YMCA is a leader in providing support, goals, and structure in that program. A Swim Access parent reported feeling rest assured that their children have complete knowledge of what to do in a water crisis, and a Swim Lesson parent noted that their older child appreciated being challenged in lessons compared with a previous school. A Signature Program parent described staff members as caring, understanding, knowledgeable about cognitive and social development, positive, and good at talking with parents and listening to feedback.
