Some sessions are described as 100% futsal based, and the program uses innovative skills games and techniques.
The program is led by Camp Director David DiTomasso. Staff member Rob Bishop is described as a certified performance enhancement specialist with over 25 years of athletic excellence. The homepage states “28 YEARS OF CAMP excellence” and notes that the reputation has been built over the past 25 years.
The mission statement describes the camp as being on the cutting edge, supplying students with thorough instruction and a high-tech curriculum developed with years of research, and states that staff members are top coaches from the Midwest and beyond. The mission statement also notes that the camp works with players from the Mini-kickers level through those looking to play at the collegiate level with ID Camps, and that the director is personally involved in every aspect of the Academy.
Parent and camper testimonials describe experiences such as increased confidence and ball control, progress in staying calm under pressure and using moves to get out of or go past pressure, and enjoyment of futsal. Parents report that staff members are very professional and take care of the kids every day, that homework assignments are given, and that coaches push players while also making sessions fun. Testimonials also mention work with coaches from all levels of college coaching at Nike Soccer Camps associated with The Soccer Academy, and describe those Nike Soccer Camps as a key experience for building confidence and knowledge about soccer at a higher level. One testimonial states that the Nike Day Camp and The Soccer Academy session in Elmhurst/Oak Brook was an outstanding experience, and another calls the camp “money and time well spent” and “a very good investment in your youth athlete.” Another parent notes that an 8-year-old’s confidence and skill grew and that the child asked to sign up for competitive soccer after attending the Junior Academy.
