About

Camp Zion is a summer program that follows a set schedule rather than a drop-in format. Campers are welcomed any time between 8:00am and 6:00pm Monday through Thursday and between 8:00am and 3:30pm on Fridays. Families can choose full day or half day attendance and select attendance for one month or three.

• Schedule: Four-week sessions offered in three blocks: Session 1 runs 5/29–6/27 (closed 6/2 and 6/3 for Shavuot), Session 2 runs 6/30–7/25 (closed 7/4 for Independence Day), and Session 3 runs 7/28–8/22

Camp Zion is part of Temple Har Zion, which is part of the Conservative movement in Judaism and emphasizes a balance of tradition and change. The camp is connected to a building that includes Gropper Windows, Engen Tapestries, and Horn Sculptures as symbols of Jewish art, culture, and iconography. The summer schedule is flexible and can be adjusted per child to suit family schedules, within the camp’s set hours and session dates.

Claudine Guralnick serves as Director of Early Childhood Education and lead teacher in the Adom classroom and has over 20 years of experience. West Suburban Temple Har Zion states that it is dedicated to providing a welcoming and caring community and emphasizes lifelong learning, meaningful prayer, and inspiring congregational events, with a focus on worship experiences that honor Jewish tradition and encourage spiritual exploration. Temple Har Zion serves members in River Forest, Oak Park, the Western suburbs, and the greater Chicago area, and welcomes guests from all backgrounds and observance levels.

Families describe Har Zion as an extended family where multiple generations find peace, friendships, and learning. Other parents and community members report feeling a warm welcome from clergy and staff, including at events such as a community Passover Seder, and note that reconnecting with the community as adults and with interfaith families has been positive for them and their children. Testimonials also mention that entering the synagogue feels welcoming and that the preschool leader and teachers prepare programs for kids with an emphasis on holidays.
