About

YMCA of Springfield Gymnastics offers recreational gymnastics for girls and boys starting at walking age. The program includes parent-child classes, toddler classes, beginner, intermediate, and advanced classes, tumbling, and rings and swings. It also offers competitive gymnastics for girls who try out for the team and compete at USAG levels 3-10 and all Xcel levels.

Programs

  • Recreational Gymnastics — starting at walking age · Open to girls and boys. Includes parent-child, toddler, beginner, intermediate, advanced, tumbling, and rings & swings.
  • Competitive Gymnastics — For girls. Athletes are required to try out for the team. Team competes USAG levels 3-10 and all Xcel Levels at meets in and around central Illinois.
  • Little Bugs — walking-2.5 · Tiny Tumbler Parent Child class.
  • Mini Bees — 2.5-3.5 · Parent-child transition class.
  • Toddler Bees — 3-5 · Instructor-led preschool class for children who are ready to participate without their adult.
  • Kinder Beginner — 5 · Beginner class serving as a transition from Pre-K classes to school-age classes.
  • School Age Beginner — 6 and up
  • Advanced Beginner — 6 and up

  • Tumbling 1 — Beginner class for those with little or no experience.
  • Rings and Swings — All-boys class. Must be director approved.

At a glance

  • General schedule: Recreational gymnastics programming is scheduled by season and runs year-round. Classes take place in the evenings and on weekends, with camps during the summer.
  • Facility hours: Monday-Thursday 5:00 am-8:00 pm; Friday 5:00 am-7:00 pm; Saturday 7:00 am-4:00 pm; Sunday 1:00 pm-5:00 pm

About the provider

The YMCA Gymnastics Team’s mission is to foster an environment that allows young athletes to become superior gymnasts, contribute to team camaraderie and sportsmanship, and build lifelong skills consistent with the Y’s mission and cause. The program uses USA Gymnastics certified coaches.

Boys and girls ages walking and up can participate. Athletes must try out for the competitive team. Recreational gymnastics is suitable for any level of gymnast. Little Bugs is a parent-child class. Mini Bees allows parents/caregivers to choose how involved they want to be. Toddler Bees requires the child to participate without their adult. Rings and Swings is an all-boys class and must be director approved.
