About
Bloomington Tutors offers one-on-one tutoring in finite math, calculus, statistics, accounting, business, informatics, economics, and several specific Indiana University courses such as K201 (Microsoft Excel), K303, A100, A201, A202, E201, E202, E370, E321 (Intermediate Microeconomic Theory), M118, M119, and S301. The program also provides an online finite math practice quiz and a blog with problems and explanations in finite math, calculus, statistics, and K201 based on real Indiana University exams and graded projects.
• Schedule: Indiana University Academic Support Center is open Sunday–Thursday from 7:00–11:00pm, with same-day sign-ups beginning at 6:00pm, and a tutor who fits the course and schedule contacts students within 24 hours or less to set up an appointment.
Bloomington Tutors was founded in 2013 by Alex Weissman, a graduate student in Indiana University’s School of Informatics and Computing, who partnered with Sarah Baghdadi, a former member of Brighter Days Collective, to develop a business strategy. Tutors are college upperclassmen and graduates with prior experience tutoring finite math, K201, calculus, statistics, and other common Indiana University classes, and they are carefully screened and assessed before being hired. Alex Weissman brings over ten years of experience as a highly recommended tutor with extensive technical understanding of math, engineering, and computing, and Sarah Baghdadi brought expertise from many years at Washington, DC’s largest cooperatively owned and run business. Bloomington Tutors was founded in 2013 and continues to serve students through 2026.
Bloomington Tutors focuses on one-on-one, highly personalized tutoring and does not place students into groups, with every minute of a session devoted to the material the student personally wants to work on. Tutors specialize in the most common required courses at Indiana University and Ivy Tech and provide resources and strategies for success in these courses. For in-person sessions, most students and tutors find it convenient to meet in Wells Library or the Indiana Memorial Union (IMU), and for online tutoring, Bloomington Tutors typically uses Zoom. The program also offers an online finite math practice quiz with helpful tips for common errors and invites interested tutors to apply to work with them. Bloomington Tutors provides a contact phone number: (812) 269-2380.
Parent and student comments describe tutors such as Thomasina, Vicky, Dominique, and Julia as helpful with understanding concepts, breaking down material, checking for understanding of formulas, working at a fast pace when needed, being patient, and offering explanations that match different learning styles. Testimonials mention support in courses like finite math, K204, K303, and financial accounting (A201), note flexible scheduling, and describe tutors as prepared for sessions, able to catch mistakes, and knowledgeable about which formulas are expected in class.
