All MCCSC Pre-K classrooms are state-licensed, NAEYC accredited, and Paths to QUALITYtm Level 4, which is the highest level in the State of Indiana’s Child Care Quality Rating system. MCCSC Early Learning classrooms use the Creative Curriculum, which is research-based, hands-on, and focuses on using play as the model of learning, and the 10 learning centers align with Indiana’s Early Learning Standards. Daily classroom routines and procedures are consistent while remaining flexible to meet the needs of the students, and all MCCSC Early Learning classrooms have a daily rest time where students are allowed to fall asleep and wake naturally. Toddler, Preschool, and Pre-K students are encouraged to bring one blanket and one comfort item from home for nap time, and these items are kept in the student’s cubby and sent home periodically to be laundered; families are also asked to provide a personal water bottle and a change of clothes. School supplies for students are provided by MCCSC for the school year, and an afternoon snack is provided for all school-based Preschool and Pre-K students. Students in school-based Preschool and Pre-K can bring lunch from home, or breakfast and lunch may be purchased through the MCCSC Food Services Department. MCCSC’s school-based classrooms use the app ParentSquare to keep families informed of important school events, and families and teachers may communicate at pick-up and drop-off times. Every MCCSC-districted family qualifies for tuition assistance for Preschool and Pre-K, regardless of income. All MCCSC schools are locked buildings with a video entry system, families are required to ring the video monitor to gain access, and all staff have a picture ID badge to gain entry into the building. All classrooms are led by staff who meet the educational requirements for their position, additional teaching staff assist in classrooms to maintain state-regulated staff-child ratios, background checks are conducted, annual health and safety updates are maintained, and teaching staff participate in continued professional development. The Early Learning and Out of School Programs department manages Early Learning, 3-Year-Old Preschool, 4-Year-Old Pre-K, Extended Day Program, and EdVenture Camp. The program’s stated mission is that the early years of a child’s life are important for the development of foundational learning, including the social-emotional skills that support children getting along with one another, building friendships, and cooperating with other children and adults.
