About
Ji-Eun Lee Music Academy Youth Theater includes stagecraft, vocal training, acting, and choreography in its youth theater productions. Youth theater productions are guided by professional theater directors and culminate with two or three shows at The Switch Theatre. The program is designed for children to teenagers.
The leadership team includes Ji-Eun, M.M. - Theater Director, Piano; Amanda - Theater Director; Kathleen, M.A. - Theater Director; and Abby-Rose, B.M. - Theater Director, Voice, Beginner Piano. Ji-Eun has a Master of Music in piano performance from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. Kathleen has a master’s degree in Theatre and Speech education. Abby Rose earned a Bachelors of Music in Musical Theatre from Anderson University.
Ji-Eun has been teaching piano for over 30 years. Kathleen recently retired from teaching at Lawrence Central High School after twenty-seven years and has been a member of the Board of Directors at a local community theatre, where she developed a young adult theatre program for over twenty-five years. She has been involved in community theatre since 1992 and has directed over 300 plays and/or musicals since the start of her career.
The program’s stated mission is to offer an enriching and dynamic environment for young performers to explore artistic talents, with productions that emphasize creativity, collaboration, and self-expression through the performing arts. The academy hosts 6 to 8 shows each year, featuring productions from multiple theater companies and original plays by local playwrights.
Kathleen is the recipient of seven Encore Awards for acting and directing. She is a lifetime member of the International Thespian Society and a member of the Indiana Thespian Educator Hall of Fame, and she has received Ball State University’s Theatre Alumni Award and Theatre Distinguished Alumni Award.
