Music At Play (MAP) is an early childhood program described as serving ages 3–5 and also as offering a beginning musical foundation for children 18 months of age through kindergarten. The Preparatory Choir program is offered to singers in grades 1 through 3 and is a non-auditioned experience. The Jubilate Choir is for singers with special needs and offers children not traditionally able to sing in a choral setting a unique opportunity to explore their musical talents.

The Columbus Indiana Children’s Choir (CICC) is a cooperative effort between the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic and the Indianapolis Children’s Choir and offers musical experiences to students in preschool through grade 9 in Columbus and surrounding areas. The CICC is also described as an auditioned group of children from grades 3 through 8 in Bartholomew County and surrounding counties, with two choirs: the Concert Choir for more advanced singers and the Descant Choir for beginning members. Advanced singers are offered tour opportunities, and past tours have included Carnegie Hall in New York City, Washington, DC, a Western National Parks Tour, Ireland, Canada, and central Europe.

The Indianapolis Children’s Choir was founded in 1986 by Henry Leck and is under the leadership of Executive Artistic Director Joshua Pedde. Its mission statement is that the Indianapolis Children’s Choir transforms lives through powerful choral experiences and music education, empowering young voices to grow, connect, and lead on stage and in the community. The choir has often performed by blind audition for national professional music associations, including five national conferences of the American Choral Directors Association, the National Association for Music Education, the Organization of American Kodály Educators, and the American Orff-Schulwerk Association. The ICC has performed on every continent except Antarctica, has produced 15 CDs and two videos commemorating major milestones, performed the national anthem with Grammy-winner Kelly Clarkson at Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis, and its Angels Sing holiday concert at Second Presbyterian Church is broadcast each year by 13 WTHR.

Community involvement for the ICC includes appearances with orchestras, professional artists, and ensembles, and performances at events such as Indiana gubernatorial and mayoral inaugurations, The Governor’s Arts Awards, the Indiana Living Legends Award Gala, the Indiana Leadership Summit, the Tenth Pan Am Games, President George W. Bush’s visit to Indiana, the Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial Dedication, Project 9/11 Indianapolis Memorial Dedication Ceremony, the Indianapolis Prize Gala, and opening and closing ceremonies of the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis.

Testimonials describe the ICC as organized and a strong addition to events, with comments from partners such as Meribeth Smith & Associates, Eskenazi Health, the National Anthem of Lay Ministry, and the Little Wish Foundation noting the choir’s performances at their events. Additional comments include Dr. Scott Dorsey of the American Choral Directors Association stating, “Henry Leck has created something for which there is no competition,” and singers describing ICC as a place where they did not feel judged and where the choir “grabbed” their heart.
