• Ages: 18 months–18 years old
• Schedule: The Indianapolis Children’s Choir holds 110 rehearsals and music classes each week.
The Indianapolis Children’s Choir was founded in 1986 by Henry Leck, with Joshua Pedde serving as Executive Artistic Director. Its mission states that it transforms lives through powerful choral experiences and music education, empowering young voices to grow, connect, and lead on stage and in the community. Each year, the organization serves more than 2,500 young people between the ages of 18 months and 18 years from nearly 20 counties, more than 360 schools, and 56 school districts, including through the Columbus Indiana Children’s Choir and the Anderson Area Children’s Choir.
The Indianapolis Children’s Choir has performed by blind audition for national professional music associations, including national conferences of the American Choral Directors Association, National Association for Music Education, Organization of American Kodály Educators, and American Orff-Schulwerk Association. The choir performed the national anthem with Grammy-winner Kelly Clarkson at Super Bowl XLVI and has appeared at events such as the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500, the 2004 FINA World Swimming Championships, the NCAA Women’s Final Four Championship Game, the US Grand Prix/Formula One, the Solheim Cup International Tournament, and the Indy 500 Festival Parade. It has performed on every continent except Antarctica, produced 15 CDs including collaborations with the Canadian Brass and the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, and released two videos, In Endless Song and Lives in Tune: The Legacy of the Indianapolis Children’s Choir, with music available on platforms such as Amazon Music, iTunes, and Spotify.
ICC singers have performed at Indiana gubernatorial and mayoral inaugurations, The Governor’s Arts Awards, the Indiana Living Legends Award Gala, the Indiana Leadership Summit, the Tenth Pan Am Games, President George W. Bush’s visit to Indiana, the Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial Dedication, Project 9/11 Indianapolis Memorial Dedication Ceremony, the Indianapolis Prize Gala, and the opening and closing ceremonies of the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis. The Angels Sing holiday concert is broadcast each year by 13 WTHR, and the ICC Alumni Association hosts former singers during the Sunday afternoon performance of the holiday concerts.
Testimonials from community partners and participants describe the choir’s performances at events such as the Eskenazi Celebration event, the NALM Conference, and programs with organizations including Meribeth Smith & Associates, Eskenazi Health, and the Little Wish Foundation. Additional comments highlight the professionalism of the choir, the impact of founder Henry Leck’s work, and personal reflections from ICC and IYC singers.
