Indiana Music Education Association Student Programs include activities such as All-State & Honor Ensembles, Circle the State with Song, Children’s Folk Dance Festival, and a Composition Competition. Students can also take part in events like Music Theory Bowl, Festival & Clinic, and the Indiana Tri-M Student Society, along with workshops such as the General Music Workshop and the Beginning and Developing Teachers Workshop. The program also connects to larger events like the Professional Development Conference and the Future Music Educators Colloquium.

The organization’s mission is to advance music education in Indiana by advocating for the best musical interests of all students and by providing quality programs, professional development, and services. It is a not-for-profit professional membership organization serving music teachers at primary, secondary, and tertiary levels, with membership that includes about 1100 active teachers, 100 retired members, and 700 collegiate members who are music education majors. As the federated state unit of NAfME, its purpose is to support and advance music education in the state of Indiana. The organization states that it values comprehensive music instruction that reaches every child, the richest quality music experience for every child, music as part of a core educational curriculum, best practices in effective teaching, and effective professional development for all music educators. The leadership team includes Executive Director Lane Velayo and Operations Manager Alicia Rankin.
