About
Indianapolis Spanish Place - Children's Spanish Classes and Summer Programs offers Spanish instruction for children through children’s classes, Saturday children’s classes, children’s private classes, and summer children’s programs. Programming for children is available at the Rucker Rd. location and through area schools, and classes are taught in an immersion setting by experienced, enthusiastic native teachers who are 100% fluent Spanish speakers. Classes take place in an informal, welcoming setting with small groups, and age-appropriate activities are a part of every class.
• Ages: 3–17 years old
• Price: Group classes are $16 per hour, and private class fees can be shared with a partner or small group.
Indianapolis Spanish Place also provides Spanish classes at different schools and preschools, described as Spanish Classes at your child’s school and Spanish At Your School. The program’s mission is to serve English- and Spanish-speakers with products and services that include Spanish instruction, translation, ESL instruction, interpretation, social networking, study abroad, and publishing, with a focus on educational, linguistic, cultural, social, and communication benefits. Classes are taught by experienced, native instructors, and the native staff is local, experienced, certified, and described as dedicated to providing top-notch services. The leadership team includes Directors Diana Mosquera (Colombia) and Marcela Salgar, and the Indianapolis Spanish Place is part of a Midwest business that started with an Ohio location in Cincinnati in 2004, followed by Cleveland in 2011 and Columbus in 2017.
The program uses a carefully planned curriculum with immersion methodology, focusing on understanding and speaking Spanish, and students actively participate and discover the language rather than learning only by memorization or a grammar book. Age-appropriate activities for children are included, and classes equip students to do everyday tasks in Spanish such as going to school, ordering food, shopping, traveling, and attending parties. One parent testimonial states that the teachers are “absolutely AMAZING,” that after one class a child had learned a lot, and that classes are very interactive and keep the attention of the children. Another parent reports that a child who initially disliked the idea of Spanish class later looked forward to class days and came home with new words to share. A preschool teacher describes a teacher as energetic, upbeat, patient, caring, and fun, and notes that children talk about him all week and that parents report their children are speaking Spanish words at home.
