About

• Ages: 18 months–5 years old

Founded in 1986, the Indianapolis Children’s Choir leads Music At Play as its early childhood program for children 18 months through kindergarten and offers several early childhood music classes and programs for children ages 18 months to 5 years old. The Indianapolis Children’s Choir serves more than 2,500 young people between the ages of 18 months and 18 years each year and holds 110 rehearsals and music classes each week. The organization’s mission is to transform lives through powerful choral experiences and music education, empowering young voices to grow, connect, and lead on stage and in the community. Music At Play is part of an organization that has produced 15 CDs, including collaborations with the Canadian Brass and the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, and its music is available on Amazon Music, iTunes, and Spotify.

The Indianapolis Children’s Choir has performed on every continent except Antarctica and has performed by blind audition for national professional music associations, including five national conferences of the American Choral Directors Association, the National Association for Music Education, the Organization of American Kodály Educators, and the American Orff-Schulwerk Association. The choir regularly appears with orchestras, professional artists, and ensembles and has sung at events such as Indiana gubernatorial and mayoral inaugurations, The Governor’s Arts Awards, the Indiana Living Legends Award Gala, the Indiana Leadership Summit, the Tenth Pan Am Games, President George W. Bush’s visit to Indiana, the Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial Dedication, Project 9/11 Indianapolis Memorial Dedication Ceremony, the Indianapolis Prize Gala, opening and closing ceremonies of the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, Super Bowl XLVI, the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500, the NCAA Women’s Final Four Championship Game, US Grand Prix/Formula One, the Solheim Cup International Tournament, and the Indy 500 Festival Parade. The Columbus Indiana Children’s Choir is a cooperative effort between the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic and the Indianapolis Children’s Choir, and the Anderson Area Children’s Choir & Youth Chorale is a division of the Indianapolis Children’s Choir.

Music At Play is part of an organization led by Henry Leck, Founder; Joshua Pedde, Executive Artistic Director; Melissa Garcia, Columbus Indiana Children’s Choir Director; and Deborah Eikenbary, Columbus Indiana Children’s Choir Administrator. Testimonials about the Indianapolis Children’s Choir describe the choir as organized and professional, note that its performances have been a “lovely addition” to events, and report that conference attendees were “ecstatic over the professionalism of the choir.” Additional comments state that the group is very talented, that Henry Leck has created something “for which there is no competition,” that the choir “grabbed” an IYC singer’s heart, and that it is a place where an ICC singer feels they will not be judged.
