Summer Break Camps are offered by the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites. The camps are promoted with the phrase “Make new memories all summer long! SUMMER BREAK CAMPS.”
• Ages: 5–12 years old
The Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites system includes 11 historic sites that share stories of the Underground Railroad, renowned artists, mansions, and Native American earthworks, and holds more than 500,000 objects related to the human experience, the natural world, and the Hoosier spirit. The flagship museum features three floors of galleries and exhibits focused on Indiana’s art, science, culture, and innovation, and is constructed with Indiana limestone and sandstone with sculptures representing each of the state’s 92 counties. The organization states its mission as: “We ignite wonder, inspire curiosity, reveal stories and create connections,” and describes itself as a museum and historic site system rooted throughout Indiana to serve Hoosiers but made for everyone. Membership at the museum includes free admission and access to 11 historic sites and more than 600 other museums and science centers nationally.
The leadership team connected to the museum and its programs includes President and CEO Cathy Ferree and Camp Program Manager Marissa Subar, along with roles such as VP, Education and Engagement (Bethany Thomas), Senior Early Childhood Program Manager (Dru Sherfick), Public Programs Manager for family and adult programs (Jordan Brinker), and Program & Partnership Manager (Hannah Lewellyn), among others.
