About

Kids Camp is a week of music, dance, singing, games, arts, and recreation, along with learning some Louisiana French and making new friends. The camp closes with a family showcase performance of Kids Camp bands followed by a dance party celebration. Campers are encouraged to bring their own musical instruments, and loans are possible through Folk Roots for use at camp and through local music store rentals for take-home use.

• Ages: 8–14 years old
• Schedule: Camp runs 9am–4pm, Monday–Friday, on selected weeks in June and July 2026

Louisiana Folk Roots, which runs Kids Camp, was founded by volunteers in 2000 and is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Its mission is to nurture, share, and perpetuate Louisiana’s traditional cultural expressions with an emphasis on Cajun and Creole heritage through performances and related educational activities. Folk Roots programs are inclusive and do not discriminate on the basis of ability or disability in admission, access, or employment, and people of varied ages, ethnicity, gender, heritage, race, and religions participate in these programs. Teens who have completed one year of high school and play a musical instrument can apply in the spring for a Counselor in Training (CIT) position. Louisiana Folk Roots is sustained through the support of current Friends of Louisiana Folk Roots and Lifetime Members, along with numerous public and private funders. The leadership team includes a board with roles such as President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, At Large, Board Members, and an Immediate Past-President (Ex-Officio). Kids Camp shares Cajun and Creole culture with the next generation.
