Theatre With a Twist has been created to encompass a variety of theatre modalities, including musical theatre, improvisation, drama, and storytelling, with each project including an educational component and being specified for a particular age group. The organization encourages everyone to work together, supports many individuals with learning style differences, and involves staff in all aspects of the creative process rather than only managing from behind the scenes. It offers accessible programs for performers from kindergarten through adulthood and provides volunteer opportunities for high school and college students who are interested in theater. Theatre With a Twist is described as an inclusive community theater that focuses on family and education, provides experienced theater programming for a wide range of ages and skill levels, strives to promote empathy, confidence, and respect, and includes a variety of shows and camp experiences each year. Its cancellation policy states that full refunds are given only if a program is cancelled due to low enrollment or is full, and partial refunds (minus a $45 administrative fee) are given if a student withdraws two weeks before the session starts or for medical reasons with a signed and dated letter from a medical doctor or nurse practitioner.
Executive Director Mary Spinosa-Bourget holds degrees in theater, music, and communications, and a Master’s degree in Education and Drama Therapy, has been working in the theatre industry since the mid-1970s, and conceived of what has become Theatre With a Twist thirty years ago. Robin Wilson, the primary Director, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Musical Theatre Education with a focus in Dance and Choreography from UMass Amherst and a Master’s Degree in Theatre Education with a focus in Special Education from Emerson College. Director Tracey O’Neill was a 5th-grade teacher in Westford for six years, has worked in Littleton Public Schools for six years as a substitute teacher and Middle School Drama Director, and has directed 10 shows including both musicals and plays. The leadership team also includes Director Tracey O’Neill and board members Paul Bourget, Carlo Castronovo, Martina Kenyon, Lauren Marien, Sara Lavado, Rob Lavado, and Jeff Spampinato. One student, Dylan, describes Theatre With a Twist as the best theater experience they have had so far and says it feels like one big family, and a parent, Wendy, reports that her son’s confidence soared and that he looks forward to each new production.
