About

Kids, Art & Nature brings together art making, storytelling, and noncompetitive games. The program weaves these activities with a focus on a love of the natural world.

• Ages: 5–12 years old

Now in their ninth year as an independent summer camp, Kids, Art & Nature limits classes to approximately 12–14 children. Art making, storytelling, and a love of the natural world are woven together, with inclusive, noncompetitive games and use of the woods and campus for activities. Everyone is welcome, and a few partial scholarships are available each session, supported by a Scholarship Fund that receives optional, non-tax-deductible contributions added to PayPal payments.

Kids, Art & Nature is led by Deborah Bazer and Lahri Bond, with artistic assistant Aliyah Hall. Deborah Bazer has taught art classes for children and adults for over 25 years in her home studio and at Guild Studio School, Amherst Community Arts Center, and Artspace; she holds an M.Ed in early childhood and elementary education from Antioch New England University and a B.F.A. in ceramics from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Lahri Bond has also taught art classes to children and adults for over 25 years, was a founding member of Amherst Community Art Center and the Guild Studio School, creates album covers, posters, book covers, and illustrations through Lahri Bond Graphics, teaches adult art classes at Holyoke Community College, and was a staff writer for the Parent's Choice Foundation from 2005–2020. Aliyah Hall transferred from Holyoke Community College and completed a B.F.A. in Painting at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in Fall 2025.

The program states that it strongly feels the need to foster creativity by providing a safe community in which children can experiment artistically and explore and connect with the natural world. It states that it is a firm believer in the power of storytelling, that it tries to ensure classes remain inclusive and accessible for everyone, and that it strives to remove difficulties that may prevent children from participating. This camp complies with regulations of the MDPH and is licensed by the LBOH.
