• Ages: 2–70+ years old
Pilgrim Skating Arena was founded in 1974 by Arthur Flaherty, Jack O’Donoghue, Sr., and Ed Taylor. Pilgrim’s motto is “The Rink that Teaches,” and it focuses on developing individual character, responsibility, and contribution to a team. Pilgrim does not own or operate any leagues or teams, but it is home to local boys’ and girls’ town and high school teams, skating clubs, Learn-to-Skate programs, and numerous year-round hockey leagues and camps. Over eight thousand skaters, parents, siblings, and fans come to Pilgrim Skating Arena on any given weekend during the hockey season, and skaters range in age from 2 through 70+. A noticeable number of players from Pilgrim have gone on to college and professional hockey careers.
All profits from Pilgrim go back into its operations, the development of additional skating programs, its scholarship program, and other charitable endeavors. For the last 50+ years, Pilgrim Skating Arena has awarded scholarships to deserving graduating high school seniors, including boys and girls and both skaters and non-skaters, through a merit-based scholarship program. The Scholarship Committee considers leadership, scholarship, athleticism, artistic capabilities, overall achievements, citizenship, and contributions to school and community. As of June 2025, Pilgrim has given out 600 scholarships totaling over $2,472,500.00, and most years over 250 students request scholarship applications. No other ice rink in Massachusetts has engaged in the same level of charitable giving as Pilgrim Skating Arena. Families can contact the arena by phone at 781-749-6660 or by email at [email protected], and can find updates on the official Facebook page @PilgrimArenaInc and Instagram @PilgrimSkatingArena.
