About

Terp Quest Summer Camp is a traditional summer day camp where campers take part in swimming, pool activities, games, arts and crafts, climbing, and other adventure activities. Campers use a rock climbing wall, a bouldering grotto, and a ropes/challenge course, and they also go on field trips that can include activities such as bowling and paddleboard yoga. Every week includes swimming or other pool activities, active and passive games, arts and crafts, climbing, and at least one exploration of the University of Maryland campus.

• Ages: 6–13 years old
• Schedule: Terp Quest offers 6 different camp weeks each summer.

The Terp Quest Summer Day Camp was started in 2006. It is managed by University Recreation & Wellness and was started to provide a day camp experience for the children of UMD faculty and staff and others in the surrounding community. The mission statement for Terp Quest states that it is a traditional summer day camp focused on introducing children to varied recreational and educational experiences in a fun and safe environment.

Terp Quest is open to rising 1st through rising 7th grade campers, with children placed in groups that allow them to interact daily with their academic and developmental peers. A Group is for rising 1st and 2nd graders, and the youngest campers must have completed a minimum of one full year of full-day kindergarten. B Group is for rising 3rd and 4th graders, and C Group is for rising 5th and 6th graders, including campers entering 5th, 6th, or possibly 7th grade in the fall depending on age. Age restrictions are set as part of the registration process to ensure appropriate group placement, and Terp Quest will not allow campers to register out of age group if it is not an appropriate placement.

Camp weeks include a wide variety of activities in facilities described by the program as top notch, and the program states that no two days at Terp Quest are ever alike. Every Friday at Terp Quest Day Camp there is a special guest or an on-campus field trip, and interesting speakers and performers are invited every year, typically one guest per week unless the schedule is too full with other activities. At least one time every week, campers explore the University of Maryland campus.

Terp Quest Adventure summer camp is described as being for 10–12 year olds, giving them chances to be active in adventurous ways and to explore uncharted territory and challenge themselves in a fun and safe environment, all on campus in UMD facilities. All adventure and climbing activities are run as “Challenge by Choice.” Additional offerings include swimming lessons and before and after care.

Swimming at Terp Quest is under the supervision of Red Cross certified lifeguards. Full-time, year-round Terp Quest professional staff are complemented by a seasonal staff of counselors and activity specialists. The program notes that campers and staff return year after year.
